Sunday Snack - Vada Pav

Vada Pav is a delicacy in Maharashtra. It is the most popular fast-food in Mumbai. You can have it in breakfast or as evening snack. Vada Pav (also spelled as Wada Pav) is a vada, served in a pav or bun. The vada is made of potatoes rolled in a battar of gram flour. It is served with spicy chutnies.



Vada Pav Recipe:
Serving - 4 persons


Ingredients:Vada Pav
6-8 medium sized boiled potatoes
2 cups gram flour (Besan)Salt
Oil, for frying
Pav (Bun - Should not be sweet)
1 small piece ginger
4-5 garlic flakes
4-5 green chillies
1/2 cup corriander leaves (chopped)
1 tea spoon turmeric powder

Method:
1. Grind ginger, garlic and green chillies together into a paste.
2. Peel and mash potatoes.
3. Add ginger, garlic and green chillies paste to mashed potatoes. Add salt to taste and turmeric powder and mix well.
4. Make small balls of this potato mixture by rolling between slightly greased palms.
5. Now, add some salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder to gram flour. Add water gradually and keep mixing with a spoon or wire whisk. Remove lumps if any. The batter should be of medium consistency.
6. Heat some oil in a kadai (or pan), for deep frying.
7. Now dip each ball in the batter and roll it in batter to cover it completely. Slowly add it to the oil.
8. Deep fry all the vadas until golden brown and remove them on a paper to drain excess oil.
Batata Vadas are ready.
9. Now, split the pav keeping the base intact. Heat it on tawa by applying some oil on it. Spread some coriander chutney and tamarind chutney on the inner portions of pav.
10. Place the vada in it and serve hot.
